Budget 2018: The Costlier And Cheaper Imported Items

Yesterday’s Budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley gave the best for the poor ignoring the middle class. Jaitley announced a hike in the customs duties on certain products for the Union Budget of 2018 to 2019. However, a few items such as imported raw cashew nuts and solar tempered glass will be cheaper than before.

Here is the list of imported items that will become more expensive:

1. Mobile phones

2. Cars and motorcycles

3. Gold and silver

4. Sunglasses, perfumes and sunscreen 

5. Toiletries like deodorant, bath salts, dental floss and perfumery

6. Footwear and silk fabric

7. Diamonds, colored gemstones and imitation jewelry

8. Smart watches and any wearable devices

9. Furniture, LED/LCD TV panels, mattresses and lamps

10. Video game consoles and vehicles for children like tricycles, pedal cars, etc.

11. Cigarettes and candles

12. Sports accessories

13. Olive oil and groundnut oil

Here are the items to get cheaper:

1. Solar tempered glass or solar tempered glass for solar panels

2. Raw materials used in making cochlear implants

3. Raw cashew nuts

4. A select few of capital goods and electronics like ball screws and linear motion guides
