The Indian National Congress (INC) called for a massive protest against the disqualification of Mr. Rahul Gandhi as the Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP.)
The Delhi unit of the INC called for the Satyagraha protest, across the nation, following which many state Congress units staged a protest. The opposition parties like the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Aam Aadmi Party, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Trinamool Congress also extended their support to Rahul Gandhi, calling the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as dictator.
Recently on the 23rd of March, a Surat Court convicted Mr. Rahul Gandhi for two years imprisonment in a 2019 defamation case. In a public meeting, Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the former Indian National Congress (INC) allegedly made derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, everyone with the surname Modi is a “chor” (thief.)
After the conviction, the Lok Sabha secretariat issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi and disqualified him as the Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP.)
To protest Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha, the Congress launched a day-long Sankalp Satyagraha in all states on Sunday. The Delhi Police denied permission for the party to observe the protest at Delhi’s Raj Ghat, the memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, but a large number of party workers gathered outside the venue.
In Kerala, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and other Indian states , the Congress leaders staged a massive protest.
