Ms. Draupadi Murmu, the newly elected President of India, took oath as the 15th President of India, on the 25th of July, Monday.
The oath taking ceremony was held at the Central Hall of Parliament, New Delhi. Chief Justice of India (CJI) N.V. Ramana administered the oath to the new President of India Ms. Draupadi Murmu.
The oath taking ceremony was followed by a 21 gun salute, after which Ms. Draupadi Murmu would address the gathering at the Central Hall.
The grand swearing in ceremony was attended by many dignitaries of the Government of India like Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Mr. Om Birla, and other officials.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition leaders were also present during the event.
Addressing the gathering, the 15th President of India Ms. Draupadi Murmu said, “I am the first President of the country who was born in independent India. We will have to speed up our efforts to meet the expectations that our freedom fighters had with the citizens of independent India.:” She further added, “I have closely observed the enthusiasm and self-confidence of the youth of the country. All of us revered Atal ji used to say that when the youth of the country move forward, they not only make their own destiny but also make the fate of the country. Today we are seeing it come true.”
It is to be noted, Ms. Draupadi Murmu is the second woman President of the country, first-ever tribal woman to hold the highest Constitutional post and the first President to be born in independent India, (on the 20th of June, 1958.)
