Aparna Lavakumar, a senior police officer in Kerala, is all over social media platforms for her contribution towards cancer patients.
Recently, the IAS officer shaved her head and donated her knee length hair for cancer patients’ wigs. Aparna Lavakumar is a resident of Irinjalakuda in Thrissur district, Kerala. She addressed News 18 and shared her experience, stating, “Had I told someone in advance, some deterrent might have occurred. So I walked straight into a salon. After all, I do not consider this a big deal. People do greater things than this. I am not in a position to help anyone financially. This is my bit to help the needy.”
Ms. Lavakumar said she took the decision after seeing a bald cancer patient. The young boy, who lost his hair due to chemotherapy, was struggling to accept his new appearance and this made Aparna donate her hair.
Although Aparna donated her hair for cancer patients’ wigs earlier as well, this is the first time she shaved her head.
During an interview with Hindustan Times, Aparna said, “I used to contribute my hair regularly. But this time I thought of tonsuring completely after I came across a bald young boy, a cancer survivor. I found the boy was literally struggling to cope with his new appearance.”
Aparna Lavakumar, with her kind gesture for cancer patients, became a role model for many and is being praised by people across social media platforms.
