Mr. Shankarrao Kolhe, the former Maharashtra Minister died at the age of 93  in Nashik, Maharashtra, on the 16th of March, Wednesday.

According to the family, Mr. Shankarrao Kohle died due to an age-related ailment at a hospital in Nashik. 

Speaking about Mr. Kolhe’s career, he served as the Minister for Agriculture, Co-operative, Revenue and Transport between 1989 and 1993 in Maharashtra.  He was also given key roles in various government committees in Maharashtra under the National Congress Party (NCP) leadership.  He was also the founder of a cooperative sugar factory and the Sanjivani Group.

In 2017, Mr. Shankarrao Kolhe was felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Vasantdada Sugar Institute for his contribution to the cooperative sector.  

Upon hearing the demise of Mr. Shankarrao, Mr. Sharad Pawar, the President of the NCP, and other leaders expressed their condolences to the family.   Mr. Sharad Pawar tweeted, “Kolhe made a huge effort in the sugar sector by traveling around the world on the subject. His inner zeal and strong will for rural development are the traits to be embraced by newcomers in the social sector.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Kolhe is survived by his wife and three sons.
