As a regular trend, on the 21st of October, metro cities and Indian states again witnessed a hike in fuel prices.  This is the 11th consecutive day when the rates of petrol and diesel increased in India.

On Thursday, the 21st of October, at 6:00 A.M., the nation reported another hike in petrol and diesel prices by 35 paise approximately.

The daily rise in fuel prices has now become a regular trend, giving major concerns to people of India.  With the constant rise in fuel prices, people are left with no option but to use public transport for their daily routes and save money, which is Rs. 100 and more for 1 litre.

However, the rise in prices are different in different cities and states.

The petrol price in Delhi is at Rs. 106.54 per liter and diesel price is at Rs. 95.27.

The petrol price in Chennai per litre is at Rs. 103.26 and the diesel is priced at Rs. 99.59 per litre.  In Kolkata the petrol and diesel prices are at Rs. 107.12 and Rs. 98 per litre, respectively.

In Mumbai, the petrol price per litre is Rs. 112.44 and the diesel price is at Rs. 103.26 per litre

In Hyderabad also, prices hit a new high with prices of petrol and diesel being Rs. 110.82 and Rs. 103.56 per litre, respectively.  Of all the cities, Mumbai and Hyderabad have the highest prices of fuel, both diesel and petrol crossed the Rs. 100 mark.

The major reason behind the rise in prices is to balance retail prices in line with global developments due to the rise in crude oil prices.  Due to the rise in petrol and diesel prices, the rates of daily kitchen items like vegetables, fruits and other items which are transported from one region to another, also witnessed a hike in prices.  Vegetables like onion, tomato, chillies and potato which were low and under Rs. 50 are now crossed Rs. 80 to Rs. 100 per kg.  In addition, fruits and flowers also became expensive.

State owned fuel retailers, the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., (IOC,) the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., (HPCL) resume daily price revision.  Everyday fuel prices are updated at 6:00 A.M.  Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges.

Meanwhile, the Central Government said they are in talks with nations like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Russia and others regarding the oil supply situation.  However, considering the unstable situation, the prices are expected to rise in the coming days with no relief to people.
