Ms. Priyanka Gandhi, the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) is in Hyderabad for a public meeting and to participate in the Yuva Sangharshana meeting.
On the 8th of May, Monday, Ms. Priyanka Gandhi attended the Yuva Sangharshana, organised by the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) in Saroornagar. During the event, Ms. Priyanka Gandhi said, “Telangana is not soil, it is mother for the people.” She started her speech with, “Telangana movement happened for water, funds and appointments.“
Ms. Priyanka Gandhi recalled the Telangana Statehood movement and stated that many youth sacrificed their lives for Telangana, her family also made many sacrifices and said she understands the pain of the youth.
Ms. Priyanka Gandhi said, “Even after 9 years since Sonia gave Telangana, people’s aspirations have not been fulfilled.” She accused the K. Chandrashekar Rao led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Government of acting like a dictatorship.
The Congress leader said after the formation of Telangana, 8,000 farmers committed suicide. As part of declaration, Priyanka Gandhi assured that they would give Rs. 4,000 unemployment benefit and fill 2 lakh jobs and Rs. 10 lakh loan to all who are eligible, within a year after coming to power.
Notably, the visit came ahead of the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections scheduled later in this year. The major parties in the fray are the ruling BRS, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress.
In addition, Ms. Priyanka Gandhi is scheduled to attend a youth rally.
