In the latest development of the ongoing protest of wrestlers at Jantar Mantar, the Delhi Police intensified security and deployed a force of personnel.
The police personnel were deployed after a ruckus broke out between the Delhi Police and wrestlers, protesting at the site. To avoid any further clashes, the police personnel also detained many Indian National Congress (INC) workers, Members of Parliament (MPs) and legislative leaders. Furthermore, many wrestlers including Bajran Punia and Vinesh Phogat suffered serious injuries.
In a video being circulated on social media platforms, some of the protesters can be heard accusing a police personnel of attacking two wrestlers under the influence of alcohol. The accused policeman is seen sitting in the video, while the protesters alleged that other police officials were just being mute spectators.
However, the police officials denied the allegation and said, the protestors were trying to bring cots at the site, and when stopped by a police personnel, they accused him of being drunk. The matter soon escalated into an ugly violent fight, the video of which is going viral on social media platforms.
It is to be noted, the wrestlers association of India and athletes are staging protest at Jantar Mantar against the Wrestlers Federation of India (WFI) Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The protestors alleged Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is also a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, of sexual assault and harassment. With the protest, the wrestlers are demanding strict action against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and justice to all who have been victim of the WFI Chief.
