The Telangana Government announced in mid-2016 that an amount of Rs. 10 crores will be provided to the Mecca Masjid for conservation and also providing adequate facilities to the visitors and those who come for prayers. These promised funds have not yet been released to the Masjid according to the masjid officials.
In 2016 May a group of legislators that includes deputy chief minister Mohammes Mahmood Ali visited the Mecca Masjid before the start of Ramzan for inspection. It was during this inspection they found several issues such as water seepage from ceiling and the lack of CCTV cameras and proper facilities.
Putting aside the funds, the masjid staff according to reports have not received their salaries in the last three months. These issues have been ongoing for ages and the Government officials have failed to pay any notice to these issues. Meanwhile the government officials have said that the CM and Deputy CM will keep their promise and release the funds to make required improvements to the Mecca Masjid.
