Why Indian men seek divorce?: India is one of the few countries in the world where the divorce rate is very low. The chances of divorce in many regions in the country is below 0.51%. However, a steady growth in the rate of divorce was observed in the past decade.

1 ‘My wife parties a lot’

A sailor in Mumbai approached the family court in 2011 for divorce citing the reason of his wife’s regular partying habit. The court considered it as a form of abuse and granted him the divorce.

But later the Bombay High Court overturned the decision. The court observed that the 42-year-old man, who married his wife in 1999, was also in the “habit of enjoying parties”, and therefore could not conclude that the woman had subjected the man to cruelty, either physically or mentally.

“He is not entitled for a decree of divorce on the ground of cruelty, Socializing to some extent in the present society is permissible.” the court said.

2. ‘My wife wants too much coitus’

A marriage with lack of intimacy is a common trigger for divorce globally. But last year, a man in Mumbai wanted to divorce his wife because of a lot of physical activities.

In his petition, the man described his wife as having an “excessive and insatiable appetite” ever since their marriage in April 2012, according to a report by the Press Trust of India news agency.

He alleged that she would force him to have coitus, even at times when he was sick, and threatened to sleep with other men when he refused.

3. ‘My wife wears western outfits’

In this case 30 year old man applied for divorce as his wife is always wearing western outfits while going to office. apparently he wants his wife in Indian outfits all day long.

A family court passed a divorce order three years ago, but in March last year, the Bombay high court overturned it.

“The door of cruelty cannot be opened so wide, otherwise divorce will have to be granted in every case of incompatibility of temperament,” the court ruled.

4. ‘My wife has pimples!’

This man’s reason for divorce was that he was unable to consummate their marriage during their honeymoon in 1998 due to his wife’s acne problem.

Ruling in favor of the husband in 2002, a family court in Mumbai said the “repulsive condition of the wife is undoubtedly tragic for the wife but this is traumatic for the spouse”.

The court added: “The woman played a fraud on him by not disclosing the fact that she had a [skin] disease.”

5. ‘My wife is not bringing coffee to my friends’

This story goes back to 1985, In an appeal hearing in Allahabad high court the man said that the refusal by his to make tea for her husband’s friends had left him humiliated and that he is in urgent requirement of divorce.
