Kapil Mishra, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) on the 28th of October, received criticism on social media platforms for his comments regarding population.
Kapil Mishra took to his Twitter handle and posted about population control. He said, “If you want pollution to come down, then you should reduce these firecrackers and not the ones burst on Diwali.”
Mr. Mishra posted a picture in which a man wearing a skull cap was standing in a queue with a few women in burqa and children. Later, Twitter took down the post as it violated the platform’s guidelines.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) criticised Kapil Mishra’s comments and said he is playing dirty politics by trying to compare Muslim children to pollution.
The RJD leaders said Kapil Mishra is trying to create communal hatred.
Another Twitter user criticised Kapil Mishra and said, “One should not stoop down to such a level just for a ticket that it is event difficult to get up.”
However, Kapil Mishra justified his intention behind the tweet and said, “There is no mention of Hindu or Muslim in my tweet. If the picture would have been of a Hindu family, would they have reacted in the same manner.”
Mr. Mishra said he was just trying to create awareness amongst Indians about population control.
After his post, Kapil Mishra is trending on Twitter. While many supported Mishra for his initiative towards population control, several were against him, stating his tweet was an attempt to spread communal hatred.
Many Twitter users even suggested the Government of India (GoI) take action against Kapil Mishra and introduce a law for controlling the population in India.
Twitter is flooded with messages, with #IStandWithKapilMishra, #PopulationControlLaw and #KapilMishra.

In the proposed #PopulationControlLaw , Hindus, with more than 2 children, should be punished, while Muslims may be allowed one kid extra as bonus so that their ‘religious sentiments’ are not hurt & they don’t feel being discriminated against! https://t.co/h83OUENmFG

Stand Strongly with @KapilMishra_IND , RTE is not the Bapauti of One community. So called seculars are scared of #PopulationControlLaw, they know that nationalists are creating an environment for this and making people aware so now they are targeting them.#IstandWithKapilMishra
