The Telangana Government, on the 16th of December, announced a hike in liquor prices in the State.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) led State Government is expected to increase the prices of liquor in Telangana by 10 %. The prices are expected to be up by Rs. 20 to Rs. 80.
The Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department (the Abkari Department) announced the implementation of the hiked prices.
Somesh Kumar, the Chief Secretary of the Abkari Department, issued a notice regarding the same on the 16th of December.
However, the newly increased prices would not affect the old stock of liquor in Telangana, but the new one.
The decision to hike the prices of alcohol was taken to earn an additional revenue of Rs. 300 crores to Rs. 400 crores.
The new prices would come into effect from the 18th of December, a few days ahead of New Year celebrations.
