The Supreme Court (SC) on the 9th of June, directed the Central Government to send back all the stranded migrants to their native places in 15 days.
A bench of the SC judges reviewed a suo moto cognizance related to the issues of migrants during the lockdown. In regard to this, the Top Court asked the Government of India (GoI) to ensure the return of migrants to their native places in the coming 15 days.
The Apex Court also directed union territories and state governments to chalk down a scheme which would provide jobs to these migrant workers and daily labourers. In addition, complaints filed against migrant workers alleging them of violating lockdown norms across India should also be taken back.
The Central Government is also asked to provide special Shramik Express, started by the GoI for these migrant workers to states and UTs in 24 hours, so the state government initiates to send them back.
Since the 24th of March, when the first lockdown was announced, millions of migrants were suffering economically, physically and tried to walk 1,000 kms to reach home.
The judgement of the SC would help migrants to reach home as well as job security in future.
