Once again, Andhra Pradesh reported more than 20,000 cases of the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)
On the evening of the 17th of May, the Andhra Pradesh Health Department released a media bulletin and confirmed 21,320 new cases. In addition to the new Wuhan virus cases, 99 people were reported dead and 21,247 people recovered/discharged from the virus.
The bulletin also mentioned that a total of 91,253 sample tests were conducted for the Wuhan virus. With this, the cumulative total of samples tested till date stand at 18,140,307.
According to the bulletin, East Godavari has the highest number of active cases (30, 463,) followed by Chittoor (23,129,) Prakasam (20,545,) Visakhapatnam (20,155) and Nellore (18,745.)
Till date Andhra Pradesh has a total of 14,75,372 positive cases, of which 2,11,501 are active cases, 12,54,291 recovered/discharged cases and 9,580 deceased cases.
Meanwhile, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) extended the ongoing curfew till the 31st of May. The decision to extend the curfew was taken to control the spread of the Wuhan virus in the State.
