Captain Amarinder Singh, the former Chief Minister of Punjab, is all set to launch his own political party in Punjab.
On the 2nd of November, Mr. Amarinder Singh, who is also an Indian National Congress (INC) member, resigned from the Party. He also announced the launch of the Punjab Lok Congress, his new party.
He submitted a resignation letter to Ms. Sonia Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) earlier also, but it was pending with her. However, on Tuesday, Captain Amarinder Singh’s resignation letter was accepted which ended over 40 years of association with the grand old party.
In his letter to Ms. Sonia Gandhi, Captain Amarinder Singh said, “I hereby tender my resignation from the Indian National Congress in the interest of my state and my country.”
The seven page resignation letter read, “Despite my profound reservations you chose to appoint Navjot Singh Sidhu as president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. One day the Congress high command will have to regret its decision.” It further read, “I actually felt deeply hurt by your conduct and that of your children… Unfortunately, rather than reining in Sidhu, he was patronised by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, while you chose to turn a blind eye to the shenanigans of this gentleman who was aided and abetted by the general secretary in-charge Harish Rawat, perhaps the most dubious individual.”
After resigning from the INC, the former Punjab CM registered his new Punjab Lok Congress with the Election Commission (EC.) The registration process is pending with the Election Commission.
With the new party launch, Mr. Amarinder Singh is going to contest the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. It is also expected to form a stronghold and ensure victory, the new Punjab Lok Congress might make an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
It is to be noted, the BJP, the INC, the Aam Aadmi Party and now the Punjab Lok Congress would contest the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
