
Delhi: In a proud moment for Andhra Pradesh, Dalavai Shivamma, a talented puppet artist from Nimmalakunta village in Dharmavaram mandal, Srisatyasai district, was awarded the prestigious Paramparagat Award at the 38th Suraj Kund International Craft Mela in Delhi. The award was presented by Union Power Minister Manoharlal on Sunday.
The Suraj Kund Mela, held from February 7 to 23, saw participation from over 1,300 artists across the country. Out of these, only six were selected for the Paramparagat Award, with Shivamma securing the top honor. She received a certificate of appreciation, a trophy, and a cash prize of Rs. 11,000 for her exceptional craftsmanship.
Shivamma expressed her joy, stating that the award is not just a personal achievement but also a recognition of the rich tradition of Nimmalakunta puppet artists. At the mela, she showcased her intricately designed puppets, which captivated attendees and highlighted the cultural heritage of her village.
This accolade underscores the importance of preserving traditional art forms and brings global attention to the artistic legacy of Andhra Pradesh.
