Dense Fog Triggers Deadly Pile-Up on Yamuna Expressway; 4 Killed, 25 Injured

In the early hours of Tuesday, a horrific multi-vehicle collision on the Yamuna (Delhi-Agra) Expressway in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh, left four people dead and at least 25 others injured, officials confirmed. The devastating crash occurred around 4:30 AM near Milestone 127, where dense fog sharply reduced visibility, contributing to the chain reaction pile-up involving several buses and cars.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar, the sequence began with a collision among three cars, followed moments later by seven buses — including one government roadways bus and six sleeper coaches — ploughing into the wreckage. Many of the buses caught fire, turning the expressway into a scene of chaos as flames engulfed vehicles and trapped passengers inside before emergency crews arrived.

Local fire services deployed more than a dozen fire tenders and rescue teams to control the blaze and pull victims to safety. Medical teams rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, where doctors confirmed that all admitted patients remain in stable condition and face no immediate threat to life.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life, extended condolences to the bereaved families, and directed that the injured receive best-possible medical care. The state government announced an ex-gratia compensation package for the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.

Traffic on the expressway was temporarily halted and diverted as authorities worked to clear charred wreckage and reopen the vital transport corridor. Preliminary reports indicate that the conditions caused by winter fog may have played a central role in the accident, prompting renewed calls for caution among highway commuters.
