In a bizarre incident, a councillor in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli district hit himself with a slipper. He was frustrated for not being able to fulfil his election promises to his voters.
Alleging ignorance by the local civic body officials, Mr. Mulaparthi Ramaraju, the Councillor of Narsipatnam Municipality, said he tried all options but failed to keep up the promises he made to voters.
Later speaking to the news agency Mr. Ramaraju said, “It has been 31 months since I have been elected as a councillor but I am unable to solve civic issues like drainage, power, sanitation, roads and other problems in my ward.”
Sharing his frustration with the ignorance of civic body officials, Ramaraju added that it was better to die in the civil body meeting for failing to keep up the promises as his electors were demanding him to execute the unfulfilled civic works.
In the video, which is shared by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on their Twitter handle, Ramaraju can be seen crying and hitting himself with his slippers. Incidentally, Ramaraju was backed by the TDP in the local polls.
Pointing out the disappointment of their councillor, the TDP wrote, “Mulaparthi Ramaraju is the tribal representative of Lingapuram village who won on behalf of the Telugu Desam Party. Even after being in office, he has not been able to install a single tap in the village for 30 months.”
The video of the councillor hitting himself also went viral on social media.
