Rahul Gandhi Says Modi Government Unlocked Covid-19 Cases And Petrol Prices Hike

Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress (INC) criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government.

The  fresh criticism came after Delhi recorded a rise in the petrol and diesel prices on the 24th of June.

Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and said, “The Modi government has “unlocked” the Corona epidemic and petrol-diesel prices,” tweeted Gandhi this morning, with a graph chart detailing the northward spike in both Covid-19 cases and the fuel prices.

Mr. Gandhi questioned the phased manner of unlocking India, announced by the Central Government in early June.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the Central Government during a meeting,  decided to unlock India in three phases.

While the phase of the Unlock.1.0.,implemented on the 8th of June, with the opening of restaurants, malls and temples, other phases are yet to open.

On the other hand, the INC leader blames the Government for the rise of fuel.  The price of diesel was hiked for the 18th day in a row on the 24th of June in Delhi, making it costlier than petrol in Delhi.

On each of the 17 days leading up to Wednesday, both petrol and diesel had become costlier, but only diesel prices were hiked on the 24th of June.

Mr. Gandhi used a graph and tried to show the increasing cases of COVID-19 and prices of fuel.

According to the graph shown by Rahul Gandhi, the cases and the prices started to increase since the Unlock 1.0., started.

The increase in fuel rates started on June 7 this year as oil companies resumed daily revision in prices in line with costs after ending an 82-day gap during the Covid-19 lockdown. Due to the unlock, diesel prices went to a fresh highs and petrol price too is at a two-year high.

In regard to this, on the 23rd of June, the INC said they would launch a movement named, ‘Jan Andolan’ (people’s movement) in India against the hike in fuel prices.

Besides the INC, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) also criticised the Modi Government and said it is “disgraceful to unleash a planned disaster” on the common people at a time when the country is in the throes of a pandemic.

Meanwhile, India crossed 4.56 lakh cases of the Novel Coronavirus.

Till the 24th of June, India reported 2,58,684 recovered cases, 1,83,022  active cases and 14,476 deceased.
