SEC Announces 7,263 Nomination Withdrawals For AP Municipal Elections No Re Nomination Allowed

On the 3rd of March, the deadline for the nomination withdrawal from the Andhra Pradesh Municipal Corporation elections ended. 

In between the 3rd and the 4th of March, nearly 7,263 people withdrew their nominations. The State witnessed a total of 17,415 nominations, of which 7,263 people withdrew their names from the election race.

A large number of nominations were withdrawn from Anantapur, Guntur, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Prakasam, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts.

The nomination process was for 671 divisions under 12 corporations and for 2,123 wards in 75 municipalities. The State Election Commission of India (SEC) announced the confirmed withdrawals on the evening of the 3rd of March.

On the same day, the State Election Commission announced the details of the candidates in the fray.

As per the directions of the SEC, the Returning Officers (ROs) accepted withdrawals only from the candidates and not through intermediaries.

Meanwhile, in Palamaner municipality, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) candidates were unanimously elected in 18 wards. In 7 wards of Nagari municipality also the YSRCP candidates filed nominations and were elected unanimously.

The Andhra Pradesh Municipal elections for 12 corporations and 75 municipalities would be held on the 10th of March. The major parties contesting the elections are, the YSRCP, the TDP, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the JanaSena Party.

The results of the Municipal elections would be announced on the 14th of March.
