Concerned over Omicron, the new Variant of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19,) the Andhra Pradesh Government geared up with precautions. The Health Department of Andhra Pradesh, decided to send 15 % of COVID-19 positive samples for genome sequencing to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) test.
In addition, before the new variant spread in India, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government is also taking steps to set up a genome sequencing lab in Vijayawada, A.P. The State Government is also going to focus on people arriving in the State from South Africa, Botswana and Hong Kong.
The discussion and decision regarding the same was taken during a review meeting, on the 29th of November, Monday. The meeting over COVID-19 and Omicron was chaired by Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
In order to prevent the new variant Omicron and COVID-19 cases, the Andhra Pradesh CM asked officials to set up special medical teams at airports of Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad and screen people who are arriving in Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also asked to conduct RT-PCR tests and avoid rapid antigen tests, mandatory for all travelers. He also directed the officials to expedite the vaccination process with a fixed target. The State Health Department is aiming to vaccinate 2 crore people by December end.
Meanwhile, Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy asked the State Health Department to ensure medical facilities at COVID-19 hospitals, beds availability and other resources needed for COVID-19 treatment.
