Modi calls Pakistan a ‘Mothership of Terrorism’ and China stands to defend its ally.

The BRICS summit was held on the 15th and 16th of October in Goa, India, this year. At the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi branded Pakistan as the “Mothership of Terrorism,” in an attempt to isolate Pakistan. “In our own region, terrorism poses a grave threat to peace, security and development,” Modi said in remarks to the BRICS leaders which include Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

The day after P.M. Modi’s remarks, Pakistan’s long time ally, China, sprang to its defense. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chun Ying said China is against “the linking of terrorism to any specific country, ethnicity or religion.”xi-and-modi

Although P.M. Modi met with President Xi Jinping one-on-one in Goa, China has not softened its stand against India entering the 48-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group and it is also still blocking India’s request for a U.N., ban on Masood Azhar, who heads the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed.
