Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 4th of March, left for a two day visit to Gujarat and inaugurated the first phase of the Metro Train Services in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Approximately 40 km long, the first phase of the Metro Rail is a part of the Metro Rail Commissioning Programme. The two corridors of the Metro stretch from Vastral to Thaltej Gam and from Gyaspur Depot to Motera Stadium respectively.

The first phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail will provide connectivity between different parts of Ahmedabad and make commuting easier for the people residing in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

Apart from the Metro Rail inaugural, Mr. Modi also laid the foundation of the Umiya Dham Temple Complex, worth Rs. 1000 crores.

On the second day of his visit, the 5th of March, Mr. Modi is scheduled to visit Saurashtra and launch the Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI) Water Schemes. The project will provide drinking and irrigation water to the citizens of Gujarat.

Later, Modi will also dedicate a 75 bed extension building to the existing Guru Gobind Singh Hospital and also inaugurate its Postgraduate Hostel.

In addition, Narendra Modi will further launch the second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail, lay the foundation of Shikshan Bhavan and Vidyarthi Bhavan, pension schemes and several other projects.

Mr. Modi will also attend a grand event organised at the Umiya Dham Temple Complex, Ahmedabad.
