The Central Board of Secondary Education has decided to reform the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) pattern for the classes VI to IX. This procedure is followed by CBSE affiliated schools since 2009. It will be replaced from the next academic year (2017-18) with ‘uniform system of assessment, examination and report card.’ This aims at an improved standard of teaching and evaluation in all the affiliated schools.

Uniform Assessment will be followed for all the students from class VI on wards and all schools will have to run according to the CBSE template, which will be even extended to report cards that will bear the logo of the board. According to chairperson R.K. Chaturvedi, this changes a step towards the restoration of Class X board exams from 2018. He said that this new format is a “gradual movement towards quality education through standardization of teaching, assessment, examination and report card.”

Chaturvedi also added that these uniform standards have become important as the differences in systems were creating issues to the students whenever they changed schools. He said, “With the increase in CBSE affiliated schools from 309 in 1962 to 18,688 at present, a uniform system will ensure easy migration of students within the CBSE schools and also ease their difficulties while seeking admissions in new schools.”
Chaturvedi said, “This is to gradually prepare the students for Class IX and higher classes where they will have to appear for exams for the entire syllabus. But it will happen gradually.”
These reforms will aid the students in adjusting to the new schools in case of migration not only in the system but also to different boards.
