The Eluru Police intensified their investigation in the recently registered child trafficking case in Eluru town of Andhra Pradesh.
On the 26th of August, Friday, the Eluru Police found evidence of the involvement of Dr. Sanakkayala Umashankar. It is to be noted, Dr. Sannakkayala Umashankar is the son of Dr. Sanakkayala Aruna, the former Andhra Pradesh Minister and a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader.
District Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Dev said that a few gangs of Vijayawada, Guntur and Elur were involved in child trafficking. The matter came to light after the woman, whose new baby born went missing along with the Child Welfare Officer Ms. K.V.V.L Padmavathi registered a case regarding the child trafficking gang in the town. The case was registered on the 28th of July and since then the investigation is being conducted. Recently, a newborn baby was sold in Eluru by child trafficking gang members. The newborn baby of a minor girl ( a resident of Ammapalem village) was sold for Rs 2.70 lakhs.
After almost a month of investigations and searches, the Eluru Police collected evidence proving Dr. Sanakkayala Umashankar as the prime accused in the child trafficking incident.
Notably, the police found out that infants’ selling took place in Ahalya Nursing Home in Kothapet of Guntur, which belongs to Dr. Sanakkayala Umashankar.
A special police team went to Guntur to inquire about Dr. Sanakkayala Umashankar, but he escaped. The police teams are trying to track the absconding Dr. Sanakkayala Umashankar and know his whereabouts.
In the matter, the Eluru Police arrested 10 people, including an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker, who worked as a middleperson between the seller and the dealer of the baby. Furthermore, the search of the prime accused Dr. Sanakkayala Umshankar is underway.
