25 Indian Students Told To Leave University In U.S

New Delhi: Nearly 25 Indian students were asked to leave their University in the United States. The students are studying in their first semester in a computer sciences programme at Western Kentucky University. When the management found that the students not meeting the admission standards of the University, they were asked to leave and return to India or find placement in other schools. At least 60 Indian students have enrolled themselves for the programme in January this year using international recruiters.

While speaking to the Times, Chairman of Western Kentucky’s computer science programme, James Gary said that nearly 40 students did not meet the requirements of their admissions, even though they were offered remedial help by the university. He added that the students were unable to write computer programmes, which is a necessary part of the curriculum and a skill that U.S. schools teach to undergraduates. Mr. Gary told that if such students come out of the University without the ability to write programmes, it will be embarrassing to his department.

In a statement, the University said it had its international recruitment efforts in India and it will also send members of the computer science faculty to India to meet with students before offers of admission are made in the future.

Aditya Sharma, who is chairman of the Indian Student Association at the University, said that he feels bad for the students as they have come so far and invested money into it. He added that they could not meet their G.P.A, so the University had to take this decision.
