The Election Commission of India (ECI,) on Sunday, the 31st of October, announced byelections to two Rajya Sabha seats.
While one Rajya Sabha (Member of Parliament) seat is vacant in Kerala, the other one is in West Bengal. After the resignation of Mr. Jose K. Mani in Kerala and Mr. Arpit Ghosh in West Bengal, the MP seats fell vacant in the two states. In regard to this, the EC announced the by election dates.
The MP election for the two Rajya Sabha seats are scheduled to be held on the 29th of November.
Initially the by election was supposed to be held in September, but due to the third Wave of the Wuhan virus pandemic, the EC decided to postponed the same. Later in September, another MP seat fell vacant, and now both the by election is going to be held on the 29th of November.
Besides MP seats by election in Kerala and West Bengal, the EC also announced biennial elections to six Telangana and three Andhra Pradesh Members of the Legislative Council seats. The MLC seats that fell vacant after the retirement of MLC members in June and May in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, respectively.
In addition, the EC also announced the by election to one Maharashtra MLC seat that fell vacant due to the member’s death last month.
The polling and counting for all seats would be held on November 29.
