Jammu: 13 Amarnath Pilgrims Injured In A Vehicle Accident

A vehicle carrying pilgrims to Amarnath crashed into a stationary truck on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway on Thursday injuring 13 passengers.  The accident happened near the Dherma bridge in Mallad area of Udhampur district around 5.30 A. M in the morning.

The 13 pilgrims were a part of a convoy taking 3419 pilgrims from Bhagwati Nagar base camp to Kashmir. The pilgrims including 680 women and 201 Sadhus.

According to an official, the 13 injured pilgrims were admitted to the district hospital in Udhampur. Due to the critical condition of three of the pilgrims, they were shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital.

Out of the 13, 10 pilgrims are residents of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh while 3 are from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

The pilgrims sought to reach the 3,880 metre high cave shrine of Amarnath in the South Kashmir Valley. Around 2217 of them chose the traditional Pahalgam track of 36 km while 1202 of them opted for the 12 km Baltal route.
