On Monday, Justice Dipak Misra was sworn in as the 45th Chief Justice of India. The oath of office was administered to him by none other than President Ram Nath Kovind.

On Sunday, Justice J.S. Khehar retired as CJI making way for Misra to take his place. After Justice Khehar, the 63 year old Justice Misra is the senior most judge of the Supreme Court.

Misra is the third Justice from Odisha to be appointed as the CJI after Ranganath Misra and G. B. Pattanaik.

Chief Justice Misra will retire from his office on 2nd October 2018.

Misra is that unique individual who ruled making the National Anthem mandatory before every movie played at the theatres.
