PM Modi Launches Garib Kalyan Rojgar Yojana With Rs. 50,000 Resource

On the 20th of June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, launched a scheme for poor people.

PM Modi launched Garib Kalyan Rojgar Yojana worth Rs. 50,000 crores through video conference.

The new scheme would benefit migrant workers in 116 districts in India.

The Garib Kalyan Rojgar Yojana is a campaign of 125 days across 116 districts in 6 states .

The new scheme would benefit migrant workers. The programme will cover 116 districts across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha. 

During the launch Mr. Modi said, “I am sure that this scheme will turn a challenge to an opportunity. This scheme relies on the potential of those living in villages.”

On the 19th of June, Prime Minister Office took to Twitter handle and said, “This campaign of 125 days, which will work in mission mode, will involve intensified and focused implementation of 25 different types of works to provide employment to the migrant workers on one hand and create infrastructure in the rural regions of the country on the other hand, with  a resource envelope of Rs 50,000 crores.

It further added, “A total of 116 Districts with more than 25,000 returnee migrant workers across six States, namely Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha have been chosen for the campaign which includes 27 Aspirational Districts. These districts are estimated to cover about 2/3 of such migrant workers.”

All these districts have received more than 25,000 migrant workers during the lockdown.

The Yojana would help migrants generating 25 different types of works and  providing jobs in the rural regions of India. 

Initially the programme would focus migrants from 116 districts of 6 states with a resource of Rs 50,000 crores. 

Mr. Modi who virtually launched the Yojana aimed to boost livelihood opportunities in rural India. 

An official said,it would “create durable infrastructure along with boosting employment opportunities.”

The scheme would be a coordinated effort between 12 different ministries or departments, which includes rural development, panchayati raj, road transport and highways, mines, drinking water and sanitation, environment, railways, petroleum and natural gas, new and renewable energy, border roads, telecom and agriculture.

N.N.Sinha, the Rural Development secretary to India said, the laying of fibre optics cable, railway works, rurban mission jobs, sanitation works, waste management, poultry, farm ponds and training through Krishi Vigyan Kendras will be given to the migrant workers under the programme.

Mr. Sinha further added there would be no restrictions for other districts to join the programme if they also have more than 25,000 migrant workers.

The Central Government’s decision regarding the Yojana depends on the construction to create jobs after skill mapping in districts where more than 25,000 migrant workers have returned.

The programme would be run by the rural development ministry with monitoring by the Prime Minister Office (PMO.)
