Yesterday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief from Karnataka B. S. Yeddyurappa accused the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of allowing Mehul Choksi to escape from the State. This triggered a bitter war of words between the duo on Twitter. Yeddyurappa tweeted, “Well well, this ‘special someone’ (who abandoned Mysuru), did allow the very same fugitive’s uncle #ChoksiScam, to escape from Karnataka by flouting the Civil Court Order way back in 2015. The Income Tax (IT) department issued notices to various high value clients of the jewellery designer and the main accused of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam Nirav Modi. A Congress Leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi took it to Twitter declaring his innocence. It is said, the IT department issued a notice to Singhvi’s wife Anita Singhvi for allegedly buying jewellery in cash.
Abhishek Singhvi, on his twitter page, denied any wrongdoing by himself and his kin. He further said all transactions were properly accounted. Abhishek tweeted, “Neither my family nor I, nor any company of ours has the remotest lender borrower, shareholder or director interest in any Modi/Choksi company. One company Adwait (Advait Holdings Ltd.,) had five year old tenancy to Modi company (vacated in 2017) and my wife purchased some jewellery all paid in cheque.”

Abhishek said the questionnaire he received from the IT department will be answered in accordance with the law. He added all the supporting documents will be produced. Abhishek took to the twitter humorously tweeting that the IT’s questionnaire states him renting a property to Modi adds to his misdeeds. Abhishek tweeted, “Happen to be India’s highest taxpayer in my category for many years and often even across different categories. Purchases in cheque of large amounts all reflected in accounts. Harassment, innuendo, insinuation must have its limits.”
