The Delhi Police has been searching for the Justice C. S. Karnan from May 9. The search came to an end on Wednesday near Coimbatore in a resort at Malumichampatti. The West Bengal police took Karnan into custody from the resort located between Podanur and Madukkarai. The police said Karnan will be shifted to Chennai by a night flight.

Karnan was the first judge in Indian judicial history to receive six months of jail term by the Supreme Court while in service. The seven member bench led by the Chief Justice of India J.S. Khehar found him guilty of contempt of court.

After hearing the judgment on May 9, Karnan has been on the run and evaded police. Karnan retired eight days ago.

The police of Coimbatore learned of Karnan’s presence only after the West Bengal police reached Karnan’s hiding place. The ex-judge allegedly threatened the police of legal consequences despite the police informing about SC’s order to arrest him.

The justice was caught after he made calls from his mobile phone. R.V. Ramya Bharathi, Superintendent of Police and the Coimbatore rural police assisted the WB police in catching Karnan.
