Virat Kohli, a name synonymous with every Indian cricket fan around the world. The captain is in the news every day for various reasons. He has been misquoted and misinterpreted many a time. But a leading news publication, DNA, made a mountain out of a molehill and twitter instantly made them regret their publication.
There exists a thin line between covering everyday details of life and going overboard with journalistic reporting to create click bait. This is not the first time media has crossed that line. A month ago, a leading publication reported about Suhana Khan, Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter, with objectionable pictures and title. This incident gained negative criticism and questioned journalistic freedom.
In a similar incident, Virat Kohli was made news for reasons unknown. The report’s headline read, “Not the best shot: Virat Kohli glancing at Vijaya Archana’s ripped jeans is unlikely to please Anushka Sharma.” The story attracted instant criticism as Virat was quite evidently distracted or looking at a report in Archana Vijaya’s hand. Also, people lost it after Anushka Sharma was involved in the report that had no proper news or validity to it.
