Hyderabad: Irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy directed authorities to take up enquiry on the Pillar sinkage incident reported at Medigadda project (Lakshmi Barrage) in Kaleshwaram project. Uttam said that irrigation is top priority for the newly formed Congress government and asserted that they will take up the ‘Pranahita- Chevella’ project soon.

Uttam held a review on the irrigation department on Monday. He termed sinkage of pillars at Medigadda project as a serious issue and directed authorities to arrange a ground level inspection. Uttam asked higher authorities and contract agencies to accompany him on the Medigadda tour.  Uttam said that responsible authorities and agencies will be prosecuted.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the earlier government hid the GOs and details of irrigation projects and it is against the spirit of democracy. He also expressed shock over the details submitted over the Kaleshwaram Project.

Earlier government spent Rs.1 lakh crores on Kaleshwaram which is providing water for 1.25 lakh acres that to with the functioning of lift irrigation motors. How can the government take up such a project without any permissions from Central Water Commission (CWC), Uttam questioned.
