Niloufer Hospital of Hyderabad, Telangana is making headlines with the illegal practice of clinical trials on patients, especially children, since a few days.

Dr. Lalu Prasad, the Residence Medical Officer (RMO) of Niloufer Hospital, accused Dr. Ravi Kumar of conducting illegal medical trials on patients illegally.

Dr. Prasad further said Kumar was also making illegal money through this practice.

According to the allegations, Ravi Kumar is involved with pharma companies and is using their medicines and vaccines on children who are hospitalized for treatment.

However, Ravi Kumar denied the allegations and said he was conducting the medical trials with the permission of the concerned authorities.  Kumar said, “Yes I am conducting clinical trials and I am doing so with all the required permissions…I can prove that I have all the relevant permissions.”

The issue came to light after a dispute between Dr. Lalu Prasad and Dr. Ravi Kumar.  While Lalu Prasad alleged Kumar of performing illegal medical trials and making money, Kumar was adamant and said the trials were conducted after taking the required permissions.  Soon the matter was reported to the higher authorities of the Hospital. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government also intervened in the matter and ordered an investigation into the clinical trials.

On the 26th of September, Dr. K. Ramesh Reddy, the Director of Niloufer Hospital, sought a report for the same.  He said, “Details of the principal investigator along with full details of each trial protocol should be submitted by the 27th of September without fail.”

According to sources, so far, the doctor tested medicines on approximately 50 children admitted at the hospital.  The reports also say the doctor also used banned drugs on young children. The parents of the kids demanded strict action against the culprits and asked the Government to cancel their work licence.

The investigation for the same is underway.

Stay tuned for further updates.
