There is an age old saying that ‘Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.’ But in this current generation of plastic surgeries and fake tans, can this be considered applicable to all? The world has come to create a beauty standard of fair skin, big blue eyes and a perfect figure accompanied by a pretty smile.
This image has been exploited by cosmetic companies, who come up with shade cards and creams to bring you to desired shade in two weeks. Plastic surgeons have made huge sums of money by lip injections, botox, and fillers. These standards have also been set to men to be described as Tall, dark and handsome. These standards are mostly fulfilled by professional models and actors.
But this has created a problem for normal people, who dream of reaching these supermodel standards and take up different challenges and cosmetic processes. This led to the cosmetic industry becoming the biggest market around the world. The set standards have pushed people to feel uncomfortable in their own skin and develop insecurities and inferiority complexes. To thaw this standard, fitness bloggers and makeup artists have put on imperfect pictures of themselves on social media, to prove that off camera, they look as normal as everyone else.

In one such incident, a 19 year old girl received a wonderful response from YouTube artist Gina Shkeda. The teenager posted a picture that she ‘would be the happiest girl if she looked like Gina’ and also the #naturalbeauty showed she assumed Gina to be naturally beautiful. The YouTuber was tagged in this post and on noticing the tweet gave a perfect reply.
If I could wake up as beautiful as @GinaShkeda I’d be the happiest girl alive #naturalbeauty pic.twitter.com/ExpI2bnnIP

Gina tweeted, “Girl I have micro bladed brows, lash extensions in and lip injections – I don’t even look like this. You’re flawless. [sic]” This response was praised by all the social media users and the teenager, Paige Matthews, was stumbled by such a humble response from Gina. Speaking to the entertainment and lifestyle website, BuzzFeed, she said, “It kind of blew me away how she was so confident in herself, that she could put herself out like that, because not a lot of people do,” and “I realized if someone I look up to can be so confident, so can I.”
It is incidents like this that help people understanding that no one is naturally flawless. It is in the flaws that the original beauty is hidden. It is the flaws that make us who we are as a human!
