Bangalore will soon set up its Public Bicycle Sharing System with 4000 bicycles and 350 docking points. Four of the metro stations in the Central Business District (CBD) will also have docking points.

The metro stations at Indiranagar, MG road, Vidhana Soudha and Cubbon Park will be among the four metro stations to have bicycle docks.

The Directorate of Urban Land Transport mentioned it in a project proposal for the state government for approval.

The sharing system project will cover a total distance of 20 sqkm at the cost of Rs. 60 to 70 crores. The docking stations will be 300 to 500 meters from each other.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had proposed the idea of sharing bicycles during his budget speech and now it’s becoming a reality. The cycles will be available from 6 A.M., to 10 P.M., and citizens can access them with swipe cards that they can get by registering online or at a registration centre.

Every bicycle is installed with GPS to prevent them from being stolen.

Commissioner of Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) said, “It will promote non motorised transport, particularly for short commutes. Besides offering people last mile connectivity to other modes of transport, PBS will help tourists explore the city.”
