On the 18th of July, India reported 34,884 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection.

The cases registered in the past 24 hours took the total surge to 10,38,716.

Despite crossing 1million positive cases, India is hoping to fight the virus and improve the situation in India.

Though the number of cases are increasing everyday, the recovery rate is also getting better with 63.25 %. The number of recovered/discharged cases are much higher than the active cases for the Novel Coronavirus.

With these updates, India has 10,38,716 positive cases, including 3,58,692 active cases, 6,53,751 recovered/discharged cases.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said community transmission of coronavirus has been taking place in a few rural areas of Thiruvananthapuram and announced lockdown to contain the Covid spread.

The majority of the cases are from Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. While Maharashtra Government and Delhi Government increased the number of tests to control the spread, Kerala, West Bengal, Bihar and Karnataka Government announced a partial lockdown in containment zones.

P. Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, admitted community transmission in a few areas of the State and announced strict lockdown.

Mr. Vijayan said, “The situation in Thiruvananthapuram is really serious. In two areas, Poonthura and Pulluvila, community transmission has happened.”

Meanwhile Delhi and Ladakh have more than 80% recovery rate . Other states which have a recovery rate lower than 50 % are Arunachal 28.2 %, Karnataka 38.4 %, Kerala 47.3 %, Meghalaya 17.5 %, Nagaland 42.7 % and Sikkim 36.2 %.

Meanwhile, the human trials of Bharat Biotech’s vaccine for coronavirus COVAXIN, began at Rohtak’s Post Graduate raduate Institute of Medical Sciences.

The Novel Coronavirus vaccine was administered to three persons who have shown no adverse effect so far.

If approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) the vaccine could be launched as a cure for the deadly virus which broke out 8 months back, in December 2019.

Meanwhile, until the ICMR approves tha vaccine, the ICMR asked the governments of the various states and union territories to enhance three major Ts- test, track and treat.

With this, India is behind two nations in terms of COVID-19 cases, the United States of America and Brazil.

However, based on the population of India, 133 crores, only 10 lakhs are infected by the Novel Coronavirus. Of the 10 lakhs, only 3,42,473 are active cases.

The Health Ministry of India, in a report said, “The actual caseload of covid-19 patients in the country is only 331,146. They contribute a little more than one third (34%) of total cases detected so far. The actual caseload of COVID-19 has remained limited and manageable in the country.”

Meanwhile, globally the positive cases of the Novel Coronavirus are 14,071,933 and deaths at 595,171.
