The Telugu State of Andhra Pradesh topped the national list in providing telemedicine services.

According to the Central Government, Andhra Pradesh set up 13 telemedicine hubs in 13 districts, under the Central Government’s e-Sanjeevani Telemedicine Scheme, launched in India.

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government established 1,145 PHCs in the state, linked to YSR Village clinics. In addition, E-Sanjeevani (OPD) services have been available since 2020 to enable people with smartphones to access telemedicine services from home.

According to the Central Government’s list, Andhra Pradesh is leading in terms of telemedicine services, compared to other states and union territories (UTs.)

According to sources, India has had 2,43,00,635 consultations since the inception of telemedicine services, launched in 2019. Of these, 42% or 1,02,03,821 are from Andhra Pradesh, while Karnataka is in second place with 37,70,241 consultations.

Speaking of Andhra Pradesh, the e-Sanjeevani OPD app has already been downloaded by 85,351 people in the Telugu State. In addition, to make digital OPD available to people, the A.P., State Government has distributed smartphones to 42,000 Asha workers. The initiative was in the view to raise awareness among those who are unfamiliar with the use of smartphones on these vital services.

Furthermore, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) is planning to set up 14 new hubs at a cost of over Rs. 5 crores. Of these, 7 hubs have already started and each hub would have two general medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, and cardiology specialists.

Mr. Katamaneni Bhaskar, the Commissioner of the Medical and Health Department said that the State is a leader in telemedicine services. He said, “We will reach 2 lakh consultations per day by March this year and aim to do 5 lakh consultations per day by the end of this year. Thus everyone in the state gets telemedicine services an average of three times a year.”
