After the recent announcement of the mandatory linking of Ration Card with the Aadhaar Card, the people of Andhra Pradesh were concerned, which created chaos.

Recently, the Central Government announced to link Aadhaar Card with Ration Card to get ration card benefits in India. The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) acted as per the Central Government orders, asking people to link Aadhaar cards with Ration cards.

In regard to this, the Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Civil Supplies Commissioner Mr. Kona Shashidhar conducted a press meet and clarified the process. During the meeting on the 19th of August, the Civil Supplies Commissioner said, there is no need to panic about the Aadhaar Card link with the Ration Card.

Mr. Kona Shashidhar said the electronic consumer ration card integration (e-KYC) with the Aadhaar card would be done by the village volunteers and Village Revenue Officers (VROs) in every district. He said, people need not to run to Aadhaar centres for their e-KYC. Adding to this, Mr. Kona said more than 80 % of issues related to the Aadhaar Card link and KYC with the Ration Cards would be solved by VROs and volunteers, therefore there is no need to worry, saying no ration cards would be cancelled.

The Civil Supplies Commissioner also assured the benefits of the cards being continued to the people of Andhra Pradesh. He said, “Up to 4.31 crore people are benefiting from about 1.48 crore rice cards in the State. Eighty-five percent of them are E-KYC and another 35 lakh people are yet to register.

However, children below 5 years old are exempted from e-KYC. Mr. Shashidhar said, “Only those whose names are on the ration cards need to be linked to the Aadhaar and those who do not have fingerprints do not have to go to Aadhaar centers and can put their fingerprints on the e-pass machines at the nearest ration shops or the Mandal Parishad Development Offices.”

With this, Indian citizens having Aadhaar Card and Ration Card holders would go digital and would have benefits of the ration card under their respective state governments.
