Ajay Maken, the Delhi Congress President, on Thursday, resigned from his post and left the Congress party with a thank you note on Twitter.

Ajay Maken met Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party chief, and submitted his resignation letter to him. The reason behind Mr. Maken’s resignation is stated to be his unstable health. Recently, Mr. Maken went abroad to undergo treatment.

Ajay Maken joined the Congress party in 2015 and was elected twice as a Member of Parliament (MP) and thrice as a Member of Delhi Legislative Assembly.

According to sources, in 2017, Ajay Maken resigned from the Party, however, his resignation letter was denied at the time and he was asked to continue.

P.C. Chacko, the Delhi in charge chief of the All India Congress Committee (AICC,) said, “Ajay Maken had resigned in September but was asked to continue. Now, he was again asked if he wanted to continue or be relieved of the responsibilities. He insisted on being relieved. So, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has accepted his resignation and we are now looking for his replacement.”

Sheila Dixit, the former Chief Minister of Delhi, expressed her interest toward taking up the post of the President of the Delhi Congress party after Ajay Maken leaves. She said, “It is for the Party high command to decide, if I am given the opportunity to serve the party, I would not say no.”

However, the name for the position is not yet finalised and an official announcement regarding the same is yet to be made.
