NASA reported today that the record breaking astronaut Peggy Whitson will be leaving the International Space Station (ISS) and returning to earth after completing a 288 day mission.

It was reported Ms. Peggy along with NASA’s Expedition 52 Flight Engineer Jack Fischer and Commander Fyodor Yurchikhin of the Russian space agency Roscosmos will undock the Soyuz MS-04 spacecraft and land at 9:22 P.M., in Kazakhstan.
Mr. Yurchikhin will give the responsibility of the station to NASA’s Randy Bresnik.

This is Peggy’s third long duration stay in space and she will be returning after covering 122.2 million miles and 4,623 orbits of the Earth.

After reaching Earth Ms. Whitson will complete a total of 665 days spent in space more than any other American astronaut. This will put her sixth on the list of all time space endurance list.

Due to Hurricane Harvey, NASA is reviewing their plan on bringing the astronauts to Houston. Ms. Whitson and Mr. Fischer will return to America with the science samples from their expedition. But before returning they will have to go through a mandatory post flight medical evaluation.
