In a horrifying attack in Syria’s capital Damascus, a car bomb went off killing 20 people and wounded dozens. The Syrian foreign ministry informed this was the first attack since the series of jihadist attacks in March.

On Sunday, there were three car bombs among which one was set off in the capital. The security forces tracked down and destroyed the other two bombs.

The officers also reported that the target of the bombers was not achieved because of the quick action by the officers avoiding the death toll from increasing.

The attack has still not been claimed by any of the terror groups. In March, Damascus was attacked twice by two suicide bombers, one claimed by Islamic State and the other by Tahrir al Sham.

The foreign ministry wrote a letter to the U.N. secretary general and the head of the security council that reported the blast had killed 20 people in the Bab Touma area. The attack injured a number of women and children.

The state’s media reported that the bomber was spotted and triggered off the first bomb when he was encircled in the area by the security forces.

Damascus has been safe from terror attacks the last few months even though the six year long civil war is being fought in nearby areas.

Footage from the blast site showed a number of damaged cars and debris scattered on the road. The three cars carrying bombs tried entering the city but forces managed to detonate two of them, one of them missed the security and was triggered off in Damascus.
