The Indian Prime Minister announced an invitation to the Indian athletes who participated in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, as special guests.
On the 3rd of August, PM Narendra Modi invited the entire Indian Olympics contingent to Red Fort on Independence Day, the 15th of August. This year, India would celebrate 75th year of Independence. However, due to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the event would be a low key affair.
According to the sources, PM Modi said he would meet all the athletes personally after the Tokyo Olympics. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics event is scheduled to end on the 8th of August.
In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, India has shown an outstanding performance with athletes winning several medals.
Meerabai Chanu, P.V. Sindhu, Women’s Hockey Team, Dutee Chand, Men’s Hockey Team and others gave an outstanding performance and made history.
In addition, the 2020 Olympics has the highest number of Indian Athletes (120) with close to 56 women sports persons.
Feeling proud, PM Modi on the 3rd of August, posted a tweet, appreciated and cheered all the players, representing India.
His tweet read, “Remember, they’ve achieved this feat while dealing with the biggest disaster in 100 years. There are many games for which we have qualified for the first time, and not just qualify… they’ve given a tough fight.” He further added, “The confidence and passion of the Indian players is at its peak. This confidence comes when the talent is recognised, when proper facilities are provided. This new confidence is becoming the identity of new India.”
