On Thursday, former President Pranab Mukherjee shared on Twitter a letter written to him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Pranab Mukherjee expressed that the letter given to him on the last day in office touched his heart.
Prime Minister Modi described the former president as a warm, caring and affectionate person.
He wrote, “Pranab Da, our political journeys took shape in different political parties. Our ideologies, at times, have been different. Yet, such is the strength of your intellect and wisdom that we were able to work together with synergy.”
The letter went on to read, “Three years ago, I came to New Delhi as an outsider. The task before me was huge and challenging. In these times, you have always been a father figure and a mentor to me.”
Modi also added, “Your wisdom, guidance and personal warmth have given me greater confidence and strength. That you are a repository of knowledge is well known. Your intellectual prowess has constantly helped my government and me.”
The Prime Minister continued to praise Pranab Mukherjee and said, “You belong to a generation of leaders for whom politics was simply a means to selflessly give back to society. India will also ways be proud of you, a President who was a humble public servant and an exceptional leader.”
Pranab Mukherjee served as the 13th President of India from 2012 to 2017. The former president spent nearly six decades in politics. Mr. Mukerjee served as the Union Finance Minister before being appointed to the highest constitutional post.
The 81 year old former President shared similar feelings towards Prime Minister Modi. On the last day in office, Pranab Mukherjee was quoted saying about PM Modi, I will carry with me fond memories of our association and his warm and courteous behavior.”
