Telangana Steps Up Push for Key River Project

Telangana continues to work on its major irrigation projects to improve water access across the state. One such project, the Tummidihetti barrage, has now gained fresh attention as the government looks to resolve a long-standing issue with Maharashtra.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held a review meeting with Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and senior officials in Hyderabad on November 3. He asked officials to continue talks with Maharashtra and share all important project details.

The proposed barrage will come up across the Pranahita River. However, the project needs Maharashtra’s approval because some land in the neighbouring state may go under water.

Revanth Reddy said Telangana was ready to pay fair compensation for the affected land. He also offered to deposit the funds into a joint account of both state governments.

The Chief Minister also agreed to Maharashtra conducting its own survey to assess the land that may be affected. He asked officials to share the required details and existing agreements without delay.

The two states will continue discussions to address the pending issues and move the project forward.
