Flipkart To Shut Down Website, Will Sell Only Through Mobile App

FLIPKART TO SHUT DOWN WEBSITE

Flipkart To Shut Down Website: India’s leading e-commerce website Flipkart will be shutting down the website by adopting app only feature starting this September.

The country’s biggest online retailer Flipkart implemented the same strategy with Myntra (Now owned by Flipkart), after it acquired the website. Flipkart’s Chief Product Officer told employees that Flipkart will hence be operating exclusively on mobile app only.

In a statement released by Flipkart it said “India is gradually transitioning from a mobile first to a mobile only country… We are constantly experimenting with various aspects of our service to create the best shopping experience for our users on our app…,”

With this strategic movement, Flipkart hopes to garner more consumers and more sales through smartphones, which account for majority of sales even now.

“At Flipkart, we have been following a mobile first approach and 70-75 per cent of our total traffic is already coming from our mobile app,” it added.

Flipkart, founded in October 2007 is India’s biggest e-commerce website with over 80 lakh shipments delivered every month. It has more than 4.5 crore registered customers and 30,000 sellers.
