Sanjukta Parashar, remember the name. Be proud that you belong in the generation that is witnessing Assam’s First Female IPS officer ‘s all-out assault on terrorism.
Going in to the details, Sanjukta Parashar scored an enviable All India 85th rank in the UPSC exam. With her rank and her Ph.D from Jawaharlal University she could have easily opted for a desk job. But, No. Not Sanjukta Parashar. She preferred for a rough and a much harder path. Wait!! I almost forgot!! She is mother of a 2- year old Son!!!
Within hours of Parashar’s first posting in 2008 as Assistant Commandant of Makum she was dispatched to Udalguri to control ethnic clashes between Bodo and illegal Bangladeshi migrants.
She is now the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Assam’s Jorhat District. Even here she likes to get her boots dirty. She regularly leads CRPF jawans and commandos through Assam’s jungles armed with an AK-47.
If you are thinking the militants are her only adversary, then you are absolutely wrong. She doesn’t just fight militants who use the jungle as camouflage,she should also wage war against a treacherous mountainous terrain with high humidity, sudden torrential rains that suddenly create chest high currents in the river and wild animals almost on a daily basis. And then there are the locals, who play informant to the militants, giving away troop movement information.
But all the above doesn’t matter because just last month, her team arrested militants responsible for lethal attacks on Army convoys. She herself shot down 16 militants and arrested 64 in the last few months, and recovered massive hauls of arms and ammunition, according to India Today.
When she is back in her office, she wins the hearts of the locals with her small gestures.She is reportedly distributing chocolates for the two wheelers who are wearing helmets while driving. Wah!!
