THIS VET HELPS ANIMALS WALK BACK ON THEIR FEET WITH PROSTHETIC LIMBS!

Dr. Tapesh Mathur, a veterinarian by profession treated animals and performed surgeries especially cows who would lose their limbs in accidents. The owners were allowed to take them back but the only thing that worried him was the future of the animals. Tapesh wanted to do something so they could walk and lead a normal life. Dr. Mathur said,“They could not walk or lead normal lives. Their owners wouldn’t have the means to take care of invalid animals. This thought disturbed me for many years and I wished to do something for the animals. That is how I started researching the subject of prosthetics for animals.”

Tapesh started a vigorous research on how prosthetics were made for humans and how he could implement his learning on making prosthetics for animals. Tapesh started by making molds for heavy animals like cows. His attempts did fail but this didn’t keep him from trying.

Dr.Tapesh’s efforts became successful when one day a calf named Krishna met with an accident and its leg had to be removed surgically to save its life. Dr. Tapesh decided to fix the prosthetic limb on Krishna.

He said, “It’s not an easy process like it is for humans. We humans know that artificial limbs will help make our lives better. But the animals do not know that. They instinctively reject the limbs and fiddle to get rid of them.” Krishna had been in the same situation but after 15 days of physiotherapy, it got habituated to the limb. “After that, Krishna did not just walk; he ran. I cannot explain the joy of that sight,” said Dr. Tapesh.

Since then, Dr. Tapesh and his wife Dr. Shipra decided to work towards their mission to help animals with broken limbs. They named their startup after the little calf- Krishna Limb which has given new life to 35 cows and 2 dogs. Dr. Tapesh provides the treatment but does not charge any fee. Each prosthetic costs Rs.3000- Rs.4000. He said, “We do not feel like taking money for what we do. What we do is a moral responsibility. We humans, have inflicted this plight on the animals. It is our duty to make sure they lead dignified lives”..
