The Indian Women’s Hockey Team made History by securing a place in the women’s hockey event’s semi finals at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
On the 1st of August, the Indian Women Hockey Team competed against Australia and won with a 1-0 score. This is the first time that Indian Women’s Hockey Team secured a seat in the Olympics semifinals.
It is to be noted, Team India won against Australia, one of the strongest teams and three time Olympic Gold Medal winner
The intense game looked like a movie scene, giving major flashbacks of the Bollywood movie Chak De India, released in 2007. Not only the two opponents, but the last five minutes of the match had 7 penalty stroke chances for the Australian Team which was also similar to the movie script. In yesterday’s match, the Australian team failed to score and lost the quarter finals to India.
Soon after the historic victory, Twitter flooded with congratulatory messages for the Indian Hockey Team at the Olympics.
Celebrities, politicians and netizens expressed pride and felt happy seeing the Women’s Hockey Team in the semifinals of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Congratulation P V Sindhu for bringing the second Olympic medal to India. #tokyo2021olympics

With this, both men’s and women’s hockey teams of India are in the semifinals at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
The Tokyo Olympics which started from the 23rd of July, 2021, would end on the 8th of August, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. Despite being held in 2021, the Tokyo Olympics are called 2020 as it was postponed due to the ongoing Wuhan virus pandemic. In 2021, the Tokyo Olympics are being organised, and the name Tokyo Olympics 2020 is still retained for branding reasons.
